Edisi angkringan kali ini kembali ke tema bersepeda. Sudah beberapa lama Kang Wed tidak membuat goweser story, terutama sejak pindah ke Bandung, padahal kegiatan gowes di Bandung lebih banyak (baca: kalori yang terbakar) daripada di Kalimantan dahulu. Maklum saja, disamping waktu yang lebih padat dan kegiatan yang lebih banyak di Bandung, serta sisa energi untuk membuat tulisan juga tipis, akhirnya baru kali ini tulisan ini bisa dirilis ke para pembaca semua.

 

Well, medan gowes di Bandung sangat berbeda dibandingkan dengan medan di Kalimantan.

Di Kalimantan, kita masih bisa bersuka ria dan merasa belum capek walaupun sudah menempuh jarak lebih dari 50 km. Berbeda dengan di Bandung, terutama Bandung Utara, dengan gowes sejauh 10-an km saja, tingkat kecapekan kita sama atau bahkan melebihi gowes di Kalimantan sejauh 50km. Kenapa?

Topografi di Bandung yang cenderung berbukit-bukit dengan tingkat tanjakan dari landai sampai dengan extreme terbukti nyata menyumbang dalam peningkatan tingkat capek goweser. Tanjakan dengan kemiringan 30-45 derajat bukanlah hal yang aneh di Bandung, sementara itu, tanjakan 10 derajat di Kalimantan merupakan hal yang langka. Betul memang topografi di Kalimantan juga banyak tanjakan dan bukit-bukit, tapi tidak setinggi dan se-panjang tanjakan di Bandung.

ASUS A43SV a personal review

been so long i don’t do writing on this blog…

well … as my allowance come (finally) and after accidentally saw a heart-taker new ASUS laptop in BEC (Bandung Electronic Centre ) , finally i have the opportunity to own it.

At a glance, this new laptop just no more similar than other ordinary laptops.
Compared with my previous Asus laptop (which is K40IE) this new A43SV comes up with chiclete keyboard and silverish palm rest. A bit luxurious for the look. But, the most important thing is it equipped with the newest architecture Intel processor. The Sandybridge !! A lot of reviews around the globe already discussed about the powerfulnes of the newest generation of Intel’s CPU.

Even though the CPU only Core i3 2310 M, but since it still the member of Sandy Bridge family the performance is undeniably excellent. From many reviews stated that i3 Sandybridge’s performance is almost equal with the i5 processors from the predecessor architecture. As we knew, the former codename before the Sandy is the Arrandale. Moreover, the market name for it is stated below :

The increase of performace in the new architecture is caused by the use of new high-K metal gate in the manufacturing processes. Unlike the Westmere processor, Sandy Bridge is a highly integrated single die solution incorporating a graphics processor built into the same die as the main processor cores. Hence, one can expect better graphics processing capabilities since its memory controller and graphics are now interconnected using a new high speed, high bandwidth ‘ring’ architecture. The unique ring architecture allows the processor’s cores to share its critical resources such as its cache with the graphics processor, thereby improving the overall performance of the computer while maintaining an energy efficient system.

Frankly, old i5 owners will be irritated when they see the performance of this new processor, certainly.
The new i5 processor will have exactly same architecture with this i3 processor, minus the Turbo-boost technology. So, do not hesitate to choose this i3 processor if you are not demanding additional Gigahertzs provided by by Turbo-boost technology.

Apart from the powerfulnes, the integrated graphic is also surprisingly fast, especially for 5 million rupiahs Laptop. The NVidia GeForce GT540M is implanted under the keyboard. The most striking feature of this brand-new entry level of laptop GPU is not just an ordinary one. It equipped with the 96 unified shaders along with 128 bit interface which is rarely found on the ordinary laptops (not the gaming laptops).

After i owned the laptop, i managed to install all of my favourite games i had. And surprisingly, even the most graphic demanded game like CRYSIS 2 can run smoothly on the HIGH setting and resolution. The other games such as Assassin’s Creed : Brotherhood, Call of Duty : Black Ops and Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 are ran smoothly without a doubt.

An initial investigation shows that the performance of this laptop did not sound cheap.
By looking at the WEI (Windows Experience Index), we can draw a rough picture about its performance.

Obviously, the performance can not be neglected even for desktop users, especially the main entry one. The score itself is quite high for a low-budget laptop. To be honest, it is definitely fast. I feel that my ripping and rendering activity becomes much faster than the predecessors by large gap. I would say it was amazing to see how fast a video was ripped by this beast.

The other interesting fact is that it comes up with a half Terabytes HDD. Quite huge for everyday activities, but since it equipped with the powerful graphic adapter and also a fast processor, i’ll be teased to install all of graphic-demanded softwares.

In addition, the ASUS features embedded on this new laptops noted as added values to me. The Ice Cool feature is able to reduce the heat on the palm rest significantly. However, compared to my previous laptop which is ASUS K40IE, this laptop is little bit warmer. The old K40IE is very-very cool indeed.

Not only does the new A43SV has the advantages mentioned above, but it also has its disadvantages. The poor quality of sound is much-much worse than my old K40IE which has excellent and clarity sound for laptop class. Even though it equipped what is so-called ALTEC LANSING speaker, but the quality is mediocre. Frankly, i waould say that it is horrible. But, one obstacle will not hinder its superiority especially when we talk about graphic and rendering program.

Least but not least, for around 5,2 million rupiahs.. this cutting-edge baby born is a MUST HAVE gadget, especially when you are kicked out by your companion’s old core i5 laptops then this one will tie it down and make averybody drooling..

First February 2011 would be my unforgotten day of my live…

It was Tuesday afternoon when i had a regular meeting with other National Park employees
i still remembered when a strange number rang my new Onyx (little bit narcissistic would be perfect ok?) in the middle of the meeting, luckily i set the tone to silent mode. Even though, i had a task to record all the processes happened in the meeting, should i answer the phone while i was typing? do i looks like a four handed monster??
well i did ignore the call btw and the meeting goes on..
Meanwhile… came the breaktime .. then… unintendedly i searched the google for the phone number i have rejected recently.

How shocked i was, because google’s screen showed a similar number with the ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) phone-line and i rejected it as i did to almost all unknown callers.
As soon as possible i reached my cellphone and made a call to that number but… only a fax machine’s tone i heard.

Furthermore i did a deeper search to the phone number i’ve found that it belongs to Master of Urban Planning Study Program. Thanks to Mr.Google. Finally i found another number which was not a fax machine.
After made a call, the long awaiting good news finally came.. yess i’ve been granted for a scholarship from Bappenas and luckily i’ve been accepted in ITB university in Bandung + University in Netherland.
Alhamdulillah…

After talked with my superiors and they allowed and encouraged me to take the chance, i prepared all things needed for the scholarship. Ten days later (11/3 2011) i leaved Putussibau for a long time to go to a new city called Bandung -my previous dream city to lived in- where my new task as a student began. Before i went from Putussibau, i sold some items that hard to be carried on. My computer rig, speakers, etc are sold to my colleagues. Lucky to them who bought my stuffs due to its low prices (TBH i needed money also :p).

And…

Here i am… Living in a new city called Bandung. A city that used to be my dream place to study if only i accepted in STT Telkom about 13 years ago. God always has a way to grant the prayers…
Now i enjoys much for living in Bandung than my previous city (Putussibau).
Many things are almost a half priced here, especially the foods and clothes..
And … a lot of good loking girls also (undeniable……. haha) hopefully can get one of them :p
Hmm… almost forgot, why i wrote this post in English rather in Bahasa?
Yup right!!
I did it to practice my writing due to IELTS course i’ve attended.
6.5 is the minimum score i have to achieve in order to be accepted in Holland’s University, otherwise i should finish all my two years in ITB, hmm… i don’t think so.

Okay..
Looks like i have wrote in adequate words (150 minimum :p how economic i am :p )

Yaa…

kode perbangan Lionair menggunakan kode JT. Banyak yang memplesetkan menjadi sebuah akronim yang artinya Jelas Telat…
Tuliasan ini saya buat di ruang tunggu A2 Bandara Soekarno-Hatta karena delay yang sangat lama (3 jam) dari pesawat yang sekiranya akan membawa saya ke Pontianak.
Pesawat yang semestinya takeoff pada pukul 15.00, didelay menjadi pukul 17.00 WTF!
*edited : delay ditambah lagi 2 jam lebih, jadi total hampir 6 jam delay!! Akhirnya saya baru terbang pukul 19.45 dan landing di Pontianak pukul 21.30*

Delay ini tidak terjadi pada penerbangan ini saja, melainkan pada penerbangan-penerbangan Lionair lainnya.
Hal ini menjadikan ruang tunggu di semua terminal menjadi penuh sesak dan wajah-wajah yang emosional.

Delay seperti ini tidak terjadi sekali pada hari ini saja melainkan sering sekali terjadi khususnya Lion air.
Kenapa saya menyimpulkan demikian?
2 Minggu terakhir saya wira-wiri menggunakan beberapa penerbangan salah satunya Lion Air ini.
Dari sekian penerbangan tersebut, 3 flight menggunakan JT, dan coba anda tebak, tiga-tiganya DELAYED semua!!

Variasi delay pun berbeda-beda antara 10 menit hingga 3 jam seperti hari ini.

Alasan cuaca sama sekali tidak bisa digunakan sebagai dasar.
Sebagai seorang pilot saya setidaknya tahu persis mana cuaca yang bagus dan cuaca yang jelek, mana cuaca yang safe untuk terbang dan mana cuaca yang tidak safe untuk terbang.

Dan hari ini, cuaca sangat-sangat bagus dengan wind calm dan langit biru.
Cuaca yang sangat-sangat safe bahkan untuk sebuah pesawat trike yang biasa saya awaki yang notabene membutuhkan cuaca yang benar-benar clear and smooth untuk menerbangkannya.

Terlepas dari itu semua, Lionair merupakan salah satu (satu-satunya) airline yang memberikan kemudahan dalam hal pemesanan tiket secara online. Hampir tidak ada satu airline pun yang mampu menyaingi user friendliness dari sebuah ticketing engine milik Lionair.
Hal tersebut yang memicu saya untuk sering menggunakan airline ini. Disamping kemudahan dalam hal booking dan issued ticket, juga kemudahan membayar melalui e-banking dan ATM tidak semudah ditemui pada airline lain. Tercatat hanya Mandala yang memberikan kemudahan serupa, sedangkan maskapai lainnya belum sepenuhnya memberikan kebebasan pengguna dalam memesan tiket.

Namun, terhitung per hari ini saya akan berpikir 1000 kali untuk menggunakan Lionair lagi, walaupun dengan segala kemudahannya namun kebiasaan jelek yang suka delay ini memupus semua sanjungan saya terhadap Lion Air.

Aha… pengunjung angkringan kang Wed kali ini mendapatkan cerita lagi
Melanjutkan cerita sepedahan yang pertama di sini, kali ini cerita itu pun berlanjut………

Efek dari racun baru berupa sepeda ternyata tidak mudah hilang begitu saja. Setelah ditinggal mudik ke kampung halaman di Jogja, ternyata teman-teman di Kalimantan tidak meninggalkan aktivitas bersepeda begitu saja, justru mereka sekarang mulai menjelajahi tempat-tempat wisata lokal di Putussibau (Kalimantan Barat) dengan menggunakan sepeda. Terinspirasi dari foto-foto facebook teman-teman waktu gowes ke danau bika, akhirnya setelah balik lagi ke Kalimantan Cross Country ke – dua dengan sepeda pun harus segera digelar hahaha….

Setelah berdiskusi dengan rekan goweser serumah (Arif dan Arif) Kebetulan mereka berdua namanya sama, diputuskanlah rute baru cross country kali ini menuju Tanjung Karang kemudian menyeberang ke Kedamin (see map).
